Idaho Cable Broadband Association Policy Positions:

Connecting Every Idahoan:

Every day, ICBA members’ employees engage with families and businesses in communities across the state that represent the full diversity of Idaho. That’s why we understand better than most the struggles people face in getting and staying connected: it’s our job and these customers are our family, friends, and neighbors. ICBA recognizes broadband access opens a world of opportunity for all Idahoans. In today’s digital age, reliable and high-speed internet allows Idahoans to better access education, healthcare, economic opportunity, and civic engagement. ICBA members have built gigabit speed networks that reach across much of Idaho and are working to connect unserved and underserved households to be connected for the first time. The goal of connecting all of Idaho is finally within reach.

The Future of Internet:

ICBA is committed to investing in the future of Idaho’s connectivity infrastructure. Over the past decade, America has embarked on a technology transformation powered by constant connectivity. Today, many Idahoans have access to high-speed internet networks that have changed the way we live, work, learn and play. But ensuring that the U.S. remains a global internet leader means that our networks have to stay ahead of demand. We are transitioning from an era defined by megabits to one in which gigabit connectivity is unleashed. Thanks to technologies already being deployed and some coming soon, that future — one of lower latency, greater capacity and reliability with multigigabit symmetrical speeds — is just around the corner.

ICBA is driven to provide new services, reach new customers, and accommodate higher traffic volume – as now more than ever our customers rely on the internet to work, learn and stay connected.

Protecting Consumer Privacy:

ICBA is committed to safeguarding the privacy of Idahoans personal data. We recognize the importance of consumer trust and believe that Idahoans deserve clear and consistent control over their personal information. This framework should protect users while promoting responsible data use. By prioritizing consumer privacy, we can build trust and confidence in Idaho’s broadband ecosystem.

Promoting Cybersecurity:

ICBA member companies are constantly monitoring the technology landscape to identify cybersecurity threats. Tools are in place to deflect attacks and to protect sensitive and confidential data within networks. Cybersecurity threats are difficult to predict but the industry is always preparing for the unknown by developing innovative solutions to prevent attacks that could compromise consumers, their devices, and their confidential information.

Closing the Digital Divide:

ICBA recognizes the digital divide that exists in some parts of Idaho, particularly in rural communities. This lack of access to broadband creates significant challenges for residents, hindering their ability to access educational resources, participate in telehealth services, and compete for jobs in the digital economy. ICBA is committed to closing this digital divide through its programs providing affordable connectivity services to low-income families, expanding access to our products and services to unserved homes and small businesses, and supporting small businesses. By bridging the digital divide, we can create a more prosperous future for all Idahoans.

Supporting Local Communities:

ICBA member companies are proud to be local employers, creating jobs, investing in infrastructure, and supporting economic development throughout the state. We are committed to partnering with local organizations on initiatives that enrich the lives of Idahoans. This includes supporting educational programs, sponsoring community events, and providing access to digital literacy resources. By fostering strong relationships with local communities, we can ensure that the benefits of a thriving broadband ecosystem are felt by all Idahoans.
